Salt the Catalyst!

In early April, 1930 a man of 61 years old, firm of step and a staff in hand, reached Dandi after walking 241 miles in 24 days and defiled the law by making salt. The British had to arrest the satyagrahis (soldiers of civil disobedience) and Indians courted arrest in millions. There was panic in the administration. And Indian freedom struggle finally gathered momentum both inside and outside of India. Yes, I am talking about Mahatma Gandhi whose birthday we celebrate on 2nd Oct, the Father of the Nation. This is what Nehru had written of Gandhi, “clear-eyed and firm of step, with his faithful band trudging along behind him. Many a journey he has undertaken in the past, many a weary road traversed. But longer than any that have gone before is this last journey of his, and many are the obstacles in his way. But the fire of a great resolve is in him and surpassing love of his miserable countrymen. And love of truth that scorches and love of freedom that inspires. And none that passed him can escape the spell, and men of common clay feel the spark of live. It is a long journey, for the goal is the independence of India and the ending of the exploitation of her millions.” A man stood up to break the law and bring the change. A simple act of making Salt shakes the British Empire! This is how India started producing it own Salt.

Salt is something very closely related to Christian living. Even Jesus labeled his followers as the Salt of the Earth. Symbolizing believers as salt, Jesus assures that we are inbuilt with all the quality of salt. Hence, God expects us to be ever useful in his hands. We are bought out from the Sea of Sins and are finally processed (refined) to shine as crystal in difficult time, just as Salt shines under the sun. We are left in the world to work as a catalyst among today’s youth and to effect darkness to dawn. In these days God is in a move to send the Latter Revival and Reformation and this time He is not looking for a Moses or Paul but for you and me (the Google Generation)! As Gandhi’s act shook the British Empire; God counts on us to shake the Satan’s Empire. Here I have portrayed two of the Bible characters as a reflection to what Jesus said in Mt: 5:13 about SALT the Catalyst(medium of Change).

1. Daniel the Dream Teller Daniel’s story begins with exile to Babylon as captive, away from parents, kits and keens (Dan 1:1, 2). Yet he never gave depression any chance to peep into his life. He was confident that the God he worships is Trust Worthy therefore he was never out of Faith (Rom 1:17). His faith on God blessed him with success in a foreign land and doubtless faith brought him out alive from the Loin’s Den. It was Daniel’s faith that made king completely distressed when Daniel was in den and Nebuchadnezzar was eagerly waited for morning (Dan 6:14, 18-20). His unshakeable faith shook the king, the kingdom and its alliance. The impact of Daniel’s faith made the king Nebuchadnezzar to publicly confess that the God whom Daniel worships is the True Living God (Dan 6:25-17)Daniel proved to be an Incredible Witness (Gal 2:20), he proved to be Salt the Catalyst. He was Salt to the land where he was a captive. His fellowship strengthened his friends’ faith that even they also were firm in believed and their faith generated the boldest statement in the whole book (Dan 3:16-18). This is how the Faith we exercise daily in our family, work spot, schools colleges and etc have a big role to play for the change in people around us just as Salt leaves it taste were ever it is. Bible says “Faith moves mountains” and it is your turn to prove you for Christ. Here is the Master’s call to be the Salt that adds a taste of salvation to the tasteless lives around you! Are you ready to leave an impact!

2. Solomon, the wisest King Solomon the Wisest King ever lived. David’s son by Bathsheba… (2 Sam 12:24), anointed over opposition… (1 King 1:5-48), he purged his kingdom of corrupt leaders… (1King 2:11-46), he prayed for wisdom and was blessed by God much much more than what he asked for….(1 King 3:1-15) in short he was born with famous identity(son of King David man, not just peoples favourite but also a man after God’s own heart) and was blessed to be unique  (1King 3: 11-14). He built the temple of God which his father David desired to but God choose Solomon to do so. Solomon had an identity by which people knew him and were eager to meet him in person, as did Queen of Sheba travelling a long distance (1 King 10:1-13). The only one thing which has been repeatedly repeated to Solomon by God was this small line “If you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days”.(1King 3:14) and All wazzz well so far (1 King3:3). Chapter 11 of the same book notes the fall of the Famous king into polygamy and idolatry breaking the law of God (duet 17:17) whom he loves and whom God loved much more. Solomon’s one Wrong Turn (wrong decision) led him to lose his identity. He was famous because of his wisdom and his folly made him stand as a foolish at the end of his story. Solomon miserably failed to keep his identity until the end.

This is how Satan schemes against the young people whom God chose to use mightily and who desires to be used by God. Many times this very simple thing becomes difficult to comprehend that “if we have once committed our lives to God then why we still continue to take our own decisions that ultimately affect God and His plans”. We need to understand that “Being tempted is not a sin but yielding to the temptation is a sin”.Jesus said “If salt has lost its taste (Identity), how its saltiness shall be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet” Mt 5:13. The challenge knocking at the door for today’s Salt is to maintain the Identity of its Saltiness. Let the Salt continue to add the taste of Faith without losing its Identity. Never forget this fact that we are built with sufficient potential to bring change, we are here on earth to make a difference just as SALT. It’s all about Salt the Catalyst!

Uncertainty Hits Delhi

A headline of The Times of India was about a big building which fell down in Delhi the Capital city of India. Yes, you are right I am talking about 16 Nov 2010 the days ending up burying more than 66 people alive under a collapsing building. My Bible in Luke 13:1-5 records about one such incident when the tower of Silom fell and killed 18 people. And Jesus reflects to the incident saying “Do you think that these who died are worse Sinners than others? And continues saying “unless you repent, you will all likewise PERISH”.

Lets glance into past to see how life is so uncertain. Hope you remember Late. Mr. Raman Lamba an International Test Cricket Player of India; death met him when he was hit by a racing ball on the cricket ground, why not about Late. Mr. Y S R. Reddy the than Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh whose Copper (helicopter) crashed into a mountain and not a single person survived. Friend! This is true that life IS Uncertain!

“Can I not live a fearless life?” is an alarming question. A short punch line that LIC (Life Insurance Cooperation) uses in its policy advertisement is “JEEVAN KE SAAT BHI AUR JEEVAN KE BAD BHI”. Whether they act like or not; but Jesus Christ truly assures of life and life after death. Yes, you need not to fear of life’s Uncertainty He promises of Life at the fullest (Bible John 10:10).

The fact that life we live is fragile and is frightening us? Does the realization that we could be called into eternity any second, Scare Us? The best preparation for death is to have the Only One who died and rose again in our hearts. His name is Jesus. When He is in our heart, he delivers us from being slaves to the fear of dying (Heb 2:14-15).

For me LIC is “Life In Christ” Secured Forever!!

Yuva Unstoppable

I was in Ahmedabad at one of my friend’s house where I read about Yuva Unstoppable; it is all about a young man Amitabh Shah, founder of Yuva Unstoppable. Amitabh in one of his interview to Ahmedabad Mirror dated 16, 2010 said “I had a quarter million dollar offer from Wall Street on J P Morgan after I finished my MBA from Yale. But I wanted to do something that was fun. And what can be better and more fun than being around a group of inspiring Youth wanting to help the less privileged”. It surprised me that one man started this small group with just 4 members and today there are 60,000 volunteers across 30 cities reaching out 1.5 lakh children just within the time spam of 5 years. “By 2015, there will be 50 lakh Yuva-ites globally impacting 1.5crore children. We have very passionate young people at all levels and they will not rest”. Amitabh adds.

“We have very passionate young people at all levels and they will not rest”, this statement of Amitabh Shah reminds me of a passionate man called David in Bible whose soldiers were equally passionate, they were passionate to risk in serving their earthly king. The last but one chapter from the book of 2 Samuel recites the events of bravery of these passionate men of David. I get charged up when I read about such men in action. In 2 Samuel 23: 8 Josheb-basshebeth a Tahchemonite, chief of the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite, against eight hundred slain at one time”; Verse 15 and 16 of the same chapter note about another 3 such men. “And David longed, and said; oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gate!  And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto Jehovah”. My Bible says David Longed and these mighty men were ready to risk their life and get there master’s longing fulfilled which only a passionate man can do this. If these men serving David the king of Israel can risk their life than how much more we should how serve the King of kings. The whole chapter is full of such breath taking real stories which appeals more than the Hollywood movie 300, in which 300 Spartans soldiers fights for freedom against a multitudes of army. Passion generates spark in life, and these spark ignite our life in the mist of this dark world.

Obviously, when it is all about passion how I can forget Jesus who chose 12 disciples and commissioned to reach out the whole world with gospel. Jesus on earth was a passionate man and expected his disciples to be equally passionate. My Bible say there were one hundred twenty people including the 12 disciples who were waiting unto the Lord in the upper room for the promise mentioned Acts 1:8 to be fulfilled and just according to the promise were anointed and these 120 shake the city where they were in and the Church was having a rapid growth and people were fervent in prayer, the key factor for this kind of transformational change was passion for Christ.

As above mentioned Amitabh Shah finally closed his interview with this statement “in year 2015 we will be having 50 lakhs of young people will be working with Yuva Unstoppable”. I wonder how the passion that the disciples called Christians of early church carried with a rapid speed? Why not are we not able to reach out the people of our State, not the state but the city at least? Sorry to say but it was aptly said by a revivalist “Here is the glory of the gospel! In a few years’ time a handful of the socially influential men, with empty pockets and empty hands, turned the world upside down for their Lord Christ!.” What a dramatic difference from the evangelistic approach of this day! The Apostle had no gold but lots of glory and Passion for Christ. We have lots of Gold, but no glory and the passion. Growth of the church is the out come of a passionate Christian living. I trust and believe if the doubtless faith which knows that with God all things are possible is added with the gospel of Christ; will generate the sparks Passion in you, then the world shall know the only God Christ Jesus. We many times lose our priorities and are lost in World and end in meaningless life as someone rightly said “let the Church going into the whole world rather than the whole world coming into the Church. Only a Passionate Christian Youth can reach this Peace less and Perishing Young Generation for Christ.

If Amitabh shah can trust some passionate youth to reform the whole Nation which is perishable than I believe for God one passionate man is more than enough. Are you ready to tell the world that Jesus lives? Are you ready to be called as Jesus freak? If you are! Than this is the right time to take sparks of passion into your Church and Trust God you will see the Church catching the fire of revival. Lets Pray Oh Lord grant me grace that I may not be distracted from the purpose I am in this world. Passion for God fulfills purpose of God in creating you & me.

Let the fire of you Holy Ghost fall on me afresh so that I may live life worthy unto thee, in Jesus name I pray. Amen

A bygone reminiscence!

Oh, what a magnificent and fascinating. I sit near my window looking at the mountains and the clouds. The clouds passing by as if they are kissing the cheeks of the mountain, it’s drizzling sometimes and it’s raining sometimes! The sky is splashing its love on the thirsty ground. The ground which was waiting and waiting long for its love to fall on her all around.

When the splashing rain falls to the grasses, the trees and the plants are dancing to the symphony of raindrops. Every drop from the sky is so gratifying for the ground. I feel like tapping my feet to the tunes of raindrops. I want to reach my arms and take those dazzling drops of rain on my face and let the rain drench my soul to reap the peace. The tone of the raindrops is inviting me to embrace.

To unleash to the rain and conceal it within myself; Conceal myself to be myself again. The person who unnerved about anything but just keeps super cool. Nevertheless, that me is just buried inside because times have changed and I changed to be a person I have never been before. I could just see and enjoy me and sense inside the bygone me. Yes, the climate is so magnificent and fascinating that I cannot think of anything else but memories of the reminiscences of older me.
